Glossary definition of ICNIRP

International Commission for Non-Ionising Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) is a non-profit making organisation of independent scientific experts, based at the German Radiation Protection Agency near Munich.

The ICNIRP's main aim is to disseminate information and advice on the potential health hazards of exposure to non-ionising radiation, and it is responsible for risk assessments and setting guidelines for the safe exposure limits for the public. ICNIRP covers all of the non-ionising radiations, including the optical radiations (ultraviolet, visible and infrared-and lasers), static and time-varying electric and magnetic fields and radio frequency (including microwave) radiation, and ultrasound.
