**Megabit** is a unit of measurement in data communications used to indicate the amount of data transferred. In the field of data communications a Megabit is 1,000 kilobits, or 1,000,000 bits (i.e. using decimal notation).

Because the **bit** (binary digit) is a unit of the binary number system, some sources quote the Megabit as 1,048,576 bits. However, in data communications bits are counted using the decimal number system.
